General Plumbing FAQs

Answers to the most common questions we get asked.

Why is my water bill suddenly so high?
A sudden spike in your water bill usually indicates a hidden leak. This could be a leaking toilet cistern (which can waste liters silently), a dripping tap, or a concealed pipe leak underground. We recommend checking your water meter when everything is turned off; if it’s moving, you have a leak.
+ What should I do in a plumbing emergency?
First, don’t panic. Locate your main water shut-off valve (usually near the water meter at the front of your property) and turn it off clockwise to stop the flow. Then, call our 24/7 emergency line immediately. We will prioritize your call and get a plumber to you ASAP.
+ Why does my hot water run out so quickly?
This is often a sign that your hot water system is either too small for your household’s needs, or a component like the heating element or thermostat is failing. If it’s an older unit, sediment buildup might be reducing its capacity. We can inspect it and recommend a repair or a more efficient replacement.
+ Can I use chemical drain cleaners for blockages?
We generally advise against them. Strong chemicals can corrode your pipes over time, leading to expensive repairs down the track. They also can be dangerous to use. For persistent blockages, mechanical clearing (like plunging or jetting) is safer and far more effective.
+ Why do I have low water pressure?
Low pressure can be caused by sediment buildup in your tap aerators, a partially closed main valve, or hidden leaks in your system. If it’s only affecting hot water, it could be an issue with your hot water unit valves. We can diagnose the exact cause and restore your pressure.
